A medical foundation program can help eligible students strengthen the academic knowledge, language ability, and study skills needed for a later medical degree. The curriculum and progression rules differ by institution.
Who may consider a foundation?
Students may explore this route if they:
- Have completed secondary education but do not yet meet direct-entry requirements.
- Need additional preparation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, or academic English.
- Are changing education systems.
- Meet the foundation provider’s own admission requirements.
What a foundation may include
- Core sciences.
- Academic English.
- Study and laboratory skills.
- Communication or professional skills.
- Assessments required for progression.
Progression is conditional
Completing a foundation does not automatically guarantee entry to a medical degree. Students may need to achieve stated grades, pass assessments or interviews, meet conduct and attendance requirements, and satisfy any additional admission conditions.
